@ebi @bakersteak yes, the pretty metaphorical aspects of hanahaki are what keep me drawn in. Much like pop songs, fanfiction sure has a lot of ways to represent the twisty painful emotions of love. Though I think the tumblr post is right in that there can be fun applications without romance...The alternative STD version is really intriguing, especially the part where its contagious. I'm already thinking idly about the kinds of relationship dynamics this would entail... Perhaps a marriage that has grown apart, or a fling between friends who are afraid to express deeper feelings.
