just a warning for getting kind of dark (possible internalized misogyny?)Ok I thought of a "reason" for Mom to do this. She doesn't want her daughter to have these things done to her by a stranger. Maybe they live in a setting where rates of sexual assault/murder are very high for young girls, and Mom is convinced it would happen to her daughter no matter what. Like, the daughter is too outgoing, or too curious, maybe just she likes wearing "provocative" clothes. So Mom is going to spare her the pain of being raped and killed by a stranger and... Do it herself so that her daughter stays in familiar hands. It's a very insane conclusion to reach
