@ibly I've been loosely following Soatok's blog about all that, the only barrier I have to Signal is convincing everyone to use it (not everyone is....as used to burners as I am I guess), but less over the phone number deal (to be fair I ALSO rant about everything needing a phone: IE laundry room machines, UGH). More because people hate uprooting until they absolutely need to.
It was nigh impossible to get anyone to care that, 10-15 years ago, Skype was an utter piece of shit that I could barely use because I had piss poor internet in an unincorporated pocket of poor, Unofficially Houston TX, especially with the ads gunking up our very limited bandwith. Took me proactively making the jump to trying out Telegram and Discord in their infancy, "reporting back" and ultimately deleting my Skype for people to move when they realized they valued having me around more (and over the months, as more folks started having "my issues").
Never was able to get anyone to follow me from nuking Twitter to settling over on the Fediverse, everyone just went to Bsky or nada (nada is fair).
