and i forgor what version of python3 i was using before, it's currently on 3.13.5 so (i run dietpi on a ROCK64 so, and i previously ran.... something else i forget the name of, but that was ubuntu based iirc)

@x yeah i do the like, source thing, like the crontab entry is just bash -c "cd /home/ibly/xeveryday/ && source env/bin/activate && python3 main.py"

it's just that whenever i move it between different systems/installs, i have to recreate the pyenv

and sometimes the pyenv just breaks between updates for no damn reason aneopossum_floof_explosion

@x oh i say that, i've also written bots that interface with the mastodon api. only active project now is a bot that posts skunk images every hour, since one didn't exist on fedi til i made that lol

and it's just a simple cron job to do the posting, though managing pyenv with it sucks every time

@x iceshrimp.net is still in beta actually, been in beta for a long while

i put this instance on that software because they said that by Q1 2025 it would be finished ...but it's the end of the year and it's still not finished lol

not that i want to rush people who are literally making free software, and it's usable enough by now, it's still just missing a few features that i wish i had by now

as for me, i don't do an awful lot of dev stuff. i'm able to code stuff, but like, only in lua and python lol. most of my experience comes from making mods for sonic robo blast 2, and the only "software" i've written is something to interface with ffmpeg to help convert my music library to work on my rockbox'd ipod lol

i made an admin account for my instance too, but uh. i don't use it, and nobody on my instance follows it because i don't remind people to follow it

iceshrimp.net doesn't have the option to like, have users auto-follow people like what mastodon seems to have aneopossum_floof_explosion

added a new rule to possums.gay; nothing's come up to warrant it, i just felt it prudent to add:

12. Don't harsh the vibes
If you're purposefully being annoying, argumentative, or engaging in any form of sealioning, you will be warned. Further provocations will result in a ban.

i think a rule like this is important to have, everyone here's been really good and hasn't done any of that! but it's important to lay out stuff like this to prevent that in the first place :p

@x ah lol, that much is true too! my moderation aims here is to just, boot off instances that aim to cause harm to users, but only with reasonable suspicion. and for users themselves, well, i haven't had any issues as of yet thankfully, probably cuz it's an invite-only instance where i vibe check the people before they come in.

but anyways, "meta" is just when people talk about... well, meta-discussions about fediverse, generally when people are dissastisfied with current events.

though usually it boils down to interpersonal squabbles turned into huge gigantic "everyone defederate this instance, one person out of the hundreds of people on the instance called me a mean name, and the admin won't ban them!!!"

basically 2000s-era forum drama blown up to massive proportions lmao

@x god yeah, i hopped off twitter at the exact right time lmfao.

and yeah, fedi is great in moderation, it does succumb to a lot of the other woes of using social media if you use it way too much. it's a lot less bad due to no algorithmic junk... but a lot of the drama exists lol aneopossum_floof_explosion

i don't use this side of fedi too often, like i check in every few hours or so

but my other fedi account i do check frequently, and it's soul-draining. there's a reason people have the word "meta" muted lmao

@x yeah, at the very least most of the people who follow me here really do like my art, and appreciate it for what it is

i mean hell twitter's always sucked when it came to art, even before i did cub stuff, whenever i posted art to my twitter and fedi at the same time... i got significantly more attention on fedi, like, no joke it was like... 5/12 rts/likes on twitter, compared to 10/30 boosts/favs on fedi

@kuro @x i don't think there was much notice on inkbunny's rule change, at least from the artist i saw complaining their works got completely nuked

and iirc there was a previous incident where inkbunny did a different rule change and the same thing happened, but don't quote me on that because my memory might be playing funny with me

@x yeah, it's a sad state of affairs on there. it wasn't pretty before, but it just became intolerable after the admin basically made it public knowledge that he didn't give a shit about bigotry on the platform

truly sucks that there's no art platform that's suitable for my cub art, y'know? best place might be e621, but even then they're still really weird, and like to do rug-pulls on sudden rule changes that nobody's warned about (like when human lolis were banned and literally nobody had any time to archive any of the stuff on there)

at this point it's just safer to host my own art on my own website, and also run my own fedi instance, there's less risk doing it like this lol

@x yep, i checked in on inkbunny and i saw an artist complaining their stuff got nuked with no chance of recourse

and yeah exactly, i mean, i stopped uploading there because the admin decided that transphobes should get to spout their mouths open under the guise of "muh free speech", and wow what a shock, a lot of nazis started becoming a lot more vocal since then
